The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) was established in 1989 under the Community Right-To-Know Act known as the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA). This provides State and local officials and the public with specific information on hazardous chemicals present at a facility during the past year. Washington County Emergency Management is the local depository for public information on Tier II information gathered from facilities located within Washington County.
The Washington County Local Emergency planning Committee established semiannual meetings for business and industry, as well as public information forums for all citizens in an effort to promote chemical safety.
The Local Emergency Planning Committee is comprised of representatives from the local government, police, fire and rescue officials, environmental and governmental planners, public health professionals, hospital officials, public utility and transportation officials and representatives of business and civic organizations. Through their time, knowledge and experience they work together to create a safer, healthier environment for you, your business and your family.
The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee have been working as an active Planning Committee since 1989 and are continually attempting to improve our relationship with government, business and citizens through public education and out reach programs such as Citizens Emergency Preparedness Day, Remembrance In The Park, Home Chemical Safety, Citizens Corps and Community Emergency Response Training., all of which create exposure for the benefit of local business and government.
